Qualified Experienced Coaches

Shellby has a wonderful team of permanent, full-time staff, dedicated to creating a perfect riding environment for our students. All of our experienced coaches are accredited and insured. Shellby also runs a number of accredited courses in horse management and coach training and is Child Safety certified.

Rachelle Joisce

Founder of Shellby Equestrian Centre and holding a B.Bus in Management/Leisure Management, NCAS Level 1 General Coach, and also an SSTA (Skill Specific Trainer/Assessor) for the Introductory Horse Management and Riding Components of the EA Skill Set (Equiskills), Rachelle brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Shellby. Mother of two beautiful (horse-mad) girls, she understands the importance of creating a safe and happy environment for the children to nurture their passion for horses. Having spent over 30 years riding, competing, pony clubbing, breeding ponies and teaching, Rachelle is dedicated to maintaining a horse-riding culture in Sydney for the future generations.

Charlotte Whyld

Charlotte joins us from England with her BHS intermediate instructor equivalent to our Level 2 coach. She has great experience in the showjumping world, competing to a high level as well as teaching for the last 10 years from riding school beginners through to competitors on their own horses. Most recently teaching at Nottingham Trent University to degree level in both riding and horse management.

Angie Nelson

Bachelor of Science, Master in Education; PATH Intl. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning, and Equine Assisted Learning Coach (OK Corral Series) and Certified Level 3 in Parelli Natural Horsemanship. Joining us from the US, Angie has over 35 years experience working with horses. Lessons offered by Angie include Parelli Natural Horsemanship Lessons (both groundwork and riding), Equine Assisted Learning lessons (designed to teach character and leadership), and Therapeutic Riding Instruction for a wide range of disabilities. These lessons will teach you to better understand and lead your horse in a way that will create a loving and willing partnership with your horse. For those with disabilities, Therapeutic Riding offers additional benefits by strengthening core and balance, improving posture and coordination, stimulating healthy brain connections and promoting self confidence and emotional well-being. Ashleigh Newman

Ashleigh has a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience degree from the University of Sydney and has been a Stablehand and Trainee Riding Coach at Shellby Equestrian Centre since February 2013.

Coco Dulhunty

Coco is an NCAS Coach and was a Shellby student until recently. Her Showjumping career is amazing for one of her age, with a number of state titles and is currently the holds the Young Rider Title. Coco has 3 of her own horses on the circuit and works at Shellby covering the barn along with keeping our horses schooled, and as a coach for our beginner/intermediate students. Coco is a very encouraging and kind coach and has a great deal of knowledge to share, having trained under some of the best in the world. Some of Coco’s recent results include:

Deearne Braine

Deearne has completed her Bachelor of Equine Studies from the Western Sydney University, Parramatta, New South Wales and is a highly experienced Stablehand and Riding Coach at Shellby Equestrian Centre. Dee has an amazingly patient manner and is exceptionally skilled with nervous students and those who require extra encouragement, whilst still gleaning a wealth of knowledge and theory to complement their riding.

Esther Blank

Esther Blank started riding and working as an assistant coach in Germany. She loved dressage and drag hunting (riding fast with hounds over obstacles chasing a lure dragged by a rider - no foxes involved). In Australia Esther qualified as an AHRC Level One coach (2003). Esther is especially interested in dressage, helping riders regain lost confidence and helping women return to riding after long breaks. Esther rides her own lovely thoroughbred gelding. Esther can teach in English, German and a little bit in French. When Esther is not with horses, she is a foreign correspondent for German media.

Jess Ferguson

Jess is an NCAS Intro Coach with a strong background in Showjumping. An ex-student of Shellby from the early days, Jess has gone on to own a couple of her own horses and is now excelling in the Showjumping field. Jess works at Shellby as a stablehand and rider keeping our horses schooled as well as a coach for our beginner/Intermediate students. Jess is a very kind and patient coach, especially good with the young students. Some of Jess's recent results include:

Meg Andrew

Meg is an NCAS Introductory level coach and has been part of the Shellby team for 4 years. She has recently completed her coaching qualification and has been successfully competing at local shows with her horse Legs. Having a patient manner, Meg works well with teaching young children, ensuring lessons are fun and progressive. Meg is fluent in Japanese and is happy to teach in the language.
