Our over 12s may be interested in achieving a qualification in Horse management and Riding skills
Our Equiskills course is the first stage towards attaining a coaching accreditation, and is recognised as a level of attainment by the horse industry. The course is an accreditation facilitated by the Equestrian Association of Australia. It consists of the Introductory Riding and Introductory Horse management certificates. This course is available to students aged 12 and above, and covers a wide range of horse management topics. This course must be completed by all students wishing to enter our "Open Riding" Program.
Shellby is advantaged by having an SSTA on premises (Skill Specific Trainer Assessor) meaning that the accreditations can be completed on site. We are also regularly visited by Pip Cooper, who is a Level 2 Coach Educator, and other highly qualified coach educators.
This course gives students a goal to achieve in both their horse riding and horse management components.
Please see www.nsw.equestrian.org.au/education/equi-skills for more information about Equiskills.
On completion of the Equiskills course, Shellby facilitates the attainment of the NCAS Introductory and Level 1 Coaching Certificates. These sessions are run on Thursdays from 9.30am. The coach training courses are also open for any rider wishing to attain their qualifications. It is not required to have come through the Shellby System. For more information please phone the office.
Students who have completed the Equiskills course and who wish to practice and further advance their riding skills by having "open riding" or unassisted riding time should talk to their coach regarding options of horses available.
